DAY 01: Arrival to Belgrade
Welcome to Serbia! After your arrival you will be picked up at the Belgrade International Airport and discover the city as we take a panoramic ride through the wider City Center. Visit St Sava Temple, one of the largest Christian churches in the world, and continue towards the City core. Pass by the National Parliament and the Old Royal Court to the Republic Square – ancient city border. Take a stroll through Knez Mihailova pedestrian street to the oldest tavern in the city – the famous „?“. Follow the route between the Orthodox Cathedral and Patriarch’s Court to the very soul of Belgrade – magnificent Belgrade Fortress. Hear the fantastic history of the city which spreads way back to the ancient Celtic tribes and beyond. We suggest a lunch break at the ramparts of the ancient fortress and enjoy the spectacular view over the confluence of the two major rivers. After the lunch we will proceed to the Museum of Yugoslavia, to get to know the history of the most prominent state of the XX century. Hear the story of the unification and learn about one of the most mysterious leaders in the world – Josip Broz Tito. Finish the tour in Zemun district, once a twin city of Belgrade and a counterweight on centuries old clash between Ottoman and Austrian Empires. Visit beautiful Old Zemun and Magistrate Square, then continue to Gardoš Tower for a fantastic panorama over the rivers and Belgrade.
DAY 02: Optional: Mini Pannonian Tour
We will depart towards second largest city of Serbia, Novi Sad, also known as „Serbian Athens“ because of great cultural role during XVIII and XIX century. We will explore this beautiful city from its City Core as we stroll down Zmaj Jovina pedestrian zone. Stop at the Liberty Square to hear the story of unification and admire extraordinary buildings from Baroque and Art Nouveau, such as the Cathedral, Episcopic Palace and many more.
Continue to Petrovaradin fortress, the largest fortification on Danube river. Hear the breathtaking stories of the rivalry between Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires, which culminated at the ramparts of this very fortress.
Continue down the Danube to town of Sremski Karlovci, very soul of Serbian XVIII century cultural heritage. See the First Serbian Gymnasium, Partiarch’s Court, stroll along the cobbled streets to the Fountain of Four Lions, visit the very first place where round table was first used in diplomacy. At the very end, we will try out some of the best wines Balkan has to offer, made from grapes from Mt Fruska Gora. With centuries long tradition, these wines are still served on the most eminent Royal courts of Europe. Return to Belgrade in late afternoon hours.
DAY 03: Optional: Danube Legacy Tour
Explore the easternmost part of Serbia in our adventure through the Danube and Iron Gate Gorge. Get to know Serbia’s rich history from the dawn of civilisation. Enjoy incredible nature found only here. Visit Smederevo Fortress to hear about the Serbian Medieval Kingdom. Take a stroll through the largest plain fortress in Europe, which used to be the last Serbian Medieval capital. Continue to Viminacium, the fastest growing city of the Roman Empire. Visit fantastic archeological complex of Viminacium and hear amazing stories about the gates of two worlds. Only few steps away lies the largest mammoth finding in Europe. Visit the Mammoth center before we continue down the Danube river. Take a boat tour around fabulous Golubac fortress, at the very entrance to the Djerdap gorge. Take a stroll through the fortress hanging above Danube. Enjoy the incredible scenery of Djerdap National Park, and see the places where Danube flows from merely 200 m up to astonishing 6 km! Visit fantastic viewpoints for a bigger picture...
Return to Belgrade for overnight.
DAY 04: Mt Tara, Visegrad & Sarajevo
Check-out from the hotel and proceed to the southwest of Serbia. This day we will visit Mokra Gora region on Mt. Tara, famous for the old track railway – Sargan Eight. Enjoy a fantastic train ride on the mountain slopes, as we pass alpine serpentines through the extraordinary natural beauty. Finish the ride and head to Drvengrad, a one of a kind open-air museum and resort, founded by our well-established film director, Mr. Emir Kusturica. Continue to Visegrad and visit the famous Mehmed Pasha bridge. Continue to Sarajevo for check-in and rest.
DAY 05: Sarajevo
Tour begins with panoramic sightseeing and visit to main sites and squares of Sarajevo, than continues to walking in downtown of the city - Bascarsija. It is the most important part of Sarajevo city has a lot to offer. First we start with Bascarsija square itself, famous fountain called Sebilj and a whole story behind. Later we move on towards Kazandziluk street (Coppersmith's street), burned library – Vijecnica, and thorough explanation regarding the two distanced fortresses, Yellow and White bastion. We keep our way and learn about few bridges, including Seher-Cehaja and Latin bridge. Latin Bridge is World famous due to one unfortunate event that took place there, the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. We will than continue walking and see Imperial mosque, Gazi Husref beys mosque, Clock tower and few other spots around are places we do not miss. Sarajevo is European Jerusalem - the capital of BiH, one of European winter sports centers, venue of 14th winter Olympics 1984. Variety of cultures and religions, as well as three contrasting components of the city from former times are the reason to visit Sarajevo.
DAY 06: Optional: Travnik & Jajce
After breakfast in hotel, we are departing for Travnik and Jajce tour. First we will the City of Travnik, which had been the capital of Bosnian Pashaluk for 150 years, the residence of 77 viziers, seat of two consulates, lying in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina, represents the main administrative and political center of Central Bosnia Canton today.
Follows visit to Jajce. Jajce is the city of Bosnian kings at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers, which have always been characterized by unique natural beauties, while crucial historical events have taken place here since distant times to the present day. Eight historical layers can be discerned here. Jajce is witness to 4 empires and 3 kingdoms. Three global monotheist religions meet here. In Jajce, six architectural styles can be discerned. It has 22 national monuments. In 2007, Jajce submitted the required UNESCO nomination documentation to be placed on the World Heritage List. Monuments from ancient times and the middle Ages have been preserved in Jajce: Mithras temple, from 4th c., St Catherine’s Church, Franciscan monastery, Medvjed Tower and the Town Gates, as well as many others. The city is surrounded by forest covered mountains, and there are also two lakes, as well as the wonderful Pliva Waterfall (22,5m) in the very center of the city. Drive back to Sarajevo.
DAY 07: Departure from Sarajevo
After the breakfast transfer to the Sarajevo International airport for farewell and departure.
